The cheese tour of the LoST EU project from north to south of Germany

A real tour from the North to the South of Germany this year for the LoST EU project, which in February promoted and offered tastings of its eight PDO cheeses in various locations in Berlin and Munich.

And it did so by organizing many different events, dedicated to restaurants, shops, professionals in the food market and consumers in love with Made in Italy, preparing the events in the previous months thanks to the intense work of the LoST EU ambassadors, Max Kolbert, an expert in retail, HoReCa distribution in Germany active in southern Germany, and Fabio Esposito, an event organizer and agent for various Made in Italy brands in the northern area of Berlin, Hamburg and Hannover.
Eight cheeses from five different Italian regions conquered the palates of German consumers in ten restaurants and eight shops between Berlin and Munich, stars of free tastings for the public, educational and promotional moments.

From 14th to 23rd of February different the Restaurant Weeks have been organized. Weeks dedicated to the PDO cheeses of LoST EU project, thanks to which the customers of some of the most renowned restaurants in Berlin and Munich were able to include the products in their menus and organize free tasting stands and dedicated corners.
Among the restaurants in Berlin that organized the promotions: Enoteca l’Angolino; Bertolini Feinkost; Partenope 081; Facciola’s, wine bar; ‘A Muntagnola, which also hosted an educational masterclass and tasting aimed exclusively at the press of the capital. In Munich, instead, the restaurants that hosted the LoST EU project were: Ciccio’s, Mariss restaurant, L’Antipasto Nuovo, Ristorante Al Pacino and Ristorante la Tavernetta.

But that’s not all. Some of the most prestigious Italian product shops in Munich have joined the initiative. We’re talking about real institutions, such as Farnetani Finekost, active since 1982, an historic importer of food & wine Made in Italy and owner of the Italian points at the airport; the Superissimo chain, owned by the Friulian entrepreneur Matteo Andretta, whose family has managed the flow of Made in Italy products at the general markets of Munich for three generations and owns two shops; and, last but not least, Mitte Meer, a reference chain for Southern European products in Germany, with two shops in Munich and three in Berlin. In the different locations, thanks to the German-speaking staff employed, the public not only tasted the products, but also was able to listen to the stories of the DOP directly from the producers present, thanks also to the supporting educational materials of the LoST EU project. At the same time, in Berlin, the same promotional events have been organized in different areas of the city such as Maybachufer, Sudstern and Arkonplatz.

The highlight of the activities took place in Munich on February 24th. The exclusive wine shop of Eataly Munich hosted a day dedicated to all cheese lovers and professionals in the sector, sharing the experience with the producers from Sicily thanks to the Masterclass and Walkaround Tasting organized to involve professionals, journalists and cheese lovers, with a view to bringing these Italian dairy jewels, still quite unknown abroad, to the attention of the public of Southern Germany. Great interest in the Show-cooking proposed by the partners of the Sicily Region, which allowed the German public to observe live the spinning of a unique cheese in the world such as the Vastedda from sheep’s milk.
